When is a Ministerial Direction needed?
A Ministerial Direction is needed for any archaeological works required for an approved road scheme (as defined in Irish law), or for any archaeological works in connection with the development of a prison.
The Ministerial Direction provides authorisation for the required programme of archaeological works as a whole. The Nominated Archaeologist(s) then apply for individual registrations for each archaeological task or investigation falling within that approved programme of works. Please see our Guidance Note on Ministerial Directions for more details.
