The National Monuments Service is available to provide advice and guidance both prior to an application for planning permission and after planning has been approved.
Pre-Planning Advice and Consultation
We welcome the opportunity to engage with developers before they submit proposals. Early engagement lets us clarify the information we believe is essential to a planning application.
We are also available to provide specific advice to archaeologists and planning professionals on the scoping of advance archaeological assessments and on the cultural heritage component of environmental impact assessments.
To open a pre-planning consultation with us, please contact the Development Applications Unit (DAU) at: Manager.DAU@npws.gov.ie
Note: DAU can also coordinate consultation with other units of the department, including the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS) or National Built Heritage Service (NBHS).
Post-Planning Advice and Consultation
We support the carrying out of fully compliant developments.
If you have been granted planning permission or any other permit and need advice or guidance on how to comply with requirements for the protection of archaeological heritage, you can contact us directly at: nationalmonuments@housing.gov.ie
