The ancient church of Inishkeen is situated on the banks of the River Fane. The church was reputedly founded in the 6th century by St. Daig who studied under St. Ciarán at Clonmacnois and died in AD 586. St. Daig was said to have been a master craftsman of reliquaries and shrines and according to an ancient song composed in his honour he made 150 bells, 100 croziers and the covers for 60 gospels. The present Church of Ireland church was built about 1854 on the site of an earlier church.
All that remains of the early monastic site is a portion of a round tower. Only three storeys of this tower survive.
It has modern roof and the present height is a little over 15m and may only represent half its original height. There is an entrance on the east side at first floor level about 4m above ground level.
